An Esthetician Explains the Difference Between Sugaring and Waxing
The summer is approaching. It will soon be time to wear less and go out more, so for many people, this means the start of warm-weather grooming. Bare legs for mini skirts and bare chests for the men who like to go shirtless, you better book an appointment to see your esthetician.
When you call to book your grooming session, you will be asked if you wish to book waxing or sugaring, and if you are new to all this, you may well be wondering, “what on earth is sugaring?” So, in this blog, we are going to explain the difference between the two.
Both these techniques aim to do the same thing, and that is to remove hair.
Sugaring – Sometimes known as sugar waxing or Persian waxing. This process essentially removes hair without sticking to the skin. You guessed it. It is a mixture of sugar, lemon, and water. It is applied at room temperature, which minimizes the risk of burns. Before the sugar paste is placed on your skin, the area will be dusted with powder. After applying the sticky paste in the direction of the hair growth, a piece of cloth or paper is pressed into the preparation and quickly pulled off, taking the hairs along with it. Any residue can be cleaned off with warm soapy water. Leaving the area free of hair for up to 8-10 days.
Waxing – Strip waxing is carried out by spreading a thin layer of wax onto the skin, and using a piece of cloth or paper is quickly ripped off against the direction of hair growth, which removes the wax along with the hair. There are different forms of strip waxing. Heated or cold. Heated wax is easier to spread over the skin than cold wax. This method will keep you hair-free for four to six weeks.
In conclusion, although waxing can cause more discomfort, it will last longer than sugaring.
